How is AquaGuard used?

AquaGuard is an impermeable moisture barrier used to protect primary dressings, surgical incision sites, intravenous catheters, dialysis shunts, stomas and wound protection during a shower. It is not designed for use in the bath, hot tubs or for swimming.

What size of AquaGuard should I use?

Be sure to select the correct size of AquaGuard for the wound or device type. The listed product sizes represent the outside dimensions. When ordering, select the AquaGuard size that is larger than the actual area needing coverage. For areas needing range of motion, such as knees and elbows, select the AquaGuard product that is one size larger than the area needing coverage.

How is AquaGuard applied?

  1. Select an AquaGuard bandage that is large enough to adhere to SKIN ONLY (not to wound, device or primary dressing).
  2. Clean and dry area to be covered. Remove one sheet from the plastic packaging. Bend the adhesive corners back to form "tabs".
  3. Remove the adhesive backing from the top or bottom of AquaGuard and apply to site. Press down firmly to adhere to skin.
  4. Remove adhesive backing from left and right sides of AquaGuard, making sure that the exposed adhesive does not touch your dressing or device. Press down firmly to adhere to skin. Pinch together excess material to form a pleat and fold to side to seal the material.
  5. Remove adhesive backing from the last side of AquaGuard and press down firmly, completing the coverage of your primary dressing or site. Pinch together excess material to form a pleat and fold to side to seal the material.
  6. Repeat pressure on all sides of adhesive as a final securing step.
  7. To remove, start at either the top left or right corner and gently peel AquaGuard down in the same direction as hair growth, being careful not to disturb the primary dressing or device.

Does AquaGuard contain latex?

Where is AquaGuard made?

AquaGuard is an FDA registered facility, Class I medical device and manufactured in the USA at an FDA Approved, certified to ISO 13485:2003 standards, utilizing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to ensure product safety and quality.

Is AquaGuard harmful to skin?

The AquaGuard adhesive is designed to be gentle on delicate skin. This is especially important when used on areas with thin skin, or with pediatric or geriatric patients.

Is AquaGuard covered by my insurance?

Home care supplies like AquaGuard are occasionally covered by insurance. Check with your insurance provider about what is covered under your policy.

Does AquaGuard replace primary dressings?

AquaGuard is not a replacement for primary dressings. AquaGuard is a supplementary wound or dressing protection product. AquaGuard is used to protect a primary dressing or wound while showering or sponge bathing.

How is AquaGuard different from other shower protection methods?

Handmade moisture barriers like plastic wrap and garbage bags commonly have a 30% or higher failure rate, which can lead to infection and expensive dressing changes.  AquaGuard’s unique design keeps IV and surgical sites dry when showering. It is easy to apply and is clinically proven to be reliable. It also is disposable, so it eliminates contamination and infection risk from reusable coverings.
