AquaGuard is an impermeable moisture barrier used to protect
primary dressings, surgical incision sites, intravenous
catheters, dialysis shunts, stomas and wound protection during a
shower. It is not designed for use in the bath, hot tubs or for
swimming.
Be sure to select the correct size of AquaGuard for the wound
or device type. The

listed product sizes represent the outside dimensions. When
ordering, select the AquaGuard size that is larger than the
actual area needing coverage. For areas needing range of motion,
such as knees and elbows, select the AquaGuard product that is
one size larger than the area needing coverage.
- Select an AquaGuard bandage that is large enough to
adhere to SKIN ONLY (not to wound, device or primary
dressing).
- Clean and dry area to be covered. Remove one sheet from
the plastic packaging. Bend the adhesive corners back to
form "tabs".
- Remove the adhesive backing from the top or bottom of
AquaGuard and apply to site. Press down firmly to adhere to
skin.
- Remove adhesive backing from left and right sides of
AquaGuard, making sure that the exposed adhesive does not
touch your dressing or device. Press down firmly to adhere
to skin. Pinch together excess material to form a pleat and
fold to side to seal the material.
- Remove adhesive backing from the last side of AquaGuard
and press down firmly, completing the coverage of your
primary dressing or site. Pinch together excess material to
form a pleat and fold to side to seal the material.
- Repeat pressure on all sides of adhesive as a final
securing step.
- To remove, start at either the top left or right corner
and gently peel AquaGuard down in the same direction as hair
growth, being careful not to disturb the primary dressing or
device.
AquaGuard is not a replacement for primary dressings. Most
primary dressings are designed to keep IV and surgical sites
clean and free of infection. They are not waterproof and
therefore may allow the IV or surgical site to get wet when
showering.
AquaGuard is a supplementary wound or dressing protection
product. AquaGuard protects the primary dressing and IV or
surgical site by keeping them dry during a shower.
Handmade moisture barriers like plastic wrap and garbage bags
commonly have a 30% or higher failure rate, which can lead to
infection and expensive dressing changes. AquaGuard’s
unique design keeps IV and surgical sites dry when showering. It
is easy to apply and is clinically proven to be reliable. It
also is disposable, so it eliminates contamination and infection
risk from reusable coverings.
AquaGuard does not contain natural latex or latex proteins.
No, AquaGuard is DEHP free.
The AquaGuard adhesive is designed to be gentle on delicate
skin. This is especially important when used on areas with thin
skin, or with pediatric or geriatric patients.
AquaGuard is the only moisture barrier product
manufactured in the USA at an FDA registered facility.
AquaGuard manufacturing is certified to ISO 13485:2003
standards.
AquaGuard believes it is important to maintain the same quality
for patients at home that is provided in hospitals. Clinicians in
hospitals trust the quality of FDA approved products for their
patients.
AquaGuard is available in affordable packages of 7 individual
sheets, as well as case quantities for larger volume users.
AquaGuard is designed to keep IV and surgical site
dressings dry during a shower. Dressings that become wet or damp
during a shower should be changed immediately to reduce the risk
of infection. Most patients find that the cost associated with
changing a dressing everytime they shower is more expensive than
the cost of AquaGuard. Of course, peace of mind and the
convenience of not changing your dressing are important as well.
Home care supplies like AquaGuard may be covered by
insurance. Check with your insurance provider concerning
coverage under your policy.
